Miriam Porter

Miriam's passion is wood sculpture. Her work is highly collectable, functional, whimsical, and represents birds and animals. She is influenced by gentle Balinese philosophy, yet her works are uniquely Australian. The native birds and animals that visit her garden inspire her. Giant frogs, tadpoles, yabbies and turtles feature amongst her carvings. Miriam graduated in Applied Art (woodcraft) in 1986. She has shown in numerous exhibitions including a solo exhibition at Distelfink in 1995, The Melbourne Meat Market Craft Centre, Hotel Sofitel Melbourne and most recently at The Pantechnicon In Daylesford.
Her work has been featured in many magazines and newspapers including several editions of Craft Victoria, Australian House and Garden, Burkes Back Yard and The Age Home Feature. Recently, four of her Cockatoo Chairs auctioned by Christie's attracted bidding Australia wide and fetched record prices. Miriams sculptures are represented in numerous public spaces and private collections, including playgrounds in Williamstown, Heidleburg, Ivanhoe, Box Hill, St Kilda and Port Melbourne.
